Volunteering at a barn?
so i’ve been riding for about 2 mos – i know its like nothing- but im pretty expirienced for the amount of time ive been riding. ive just started cantering but then we moved so im switching barns. i reallly LOVE horses and i would love to stay after with my lesson- which will be every saturday starting this saturday- and help muck stables, or clean Tack. but i dont want to be a bother to my insturctor. i’ve already emailed her and she said i could stay and help with my lesson? idk what that means but she said i could do jobs for a discount tuition. so if she doesnt remember, how should i ask her? should i ask her the first lesson? or wait….? Thanks! p.s if any of you are barn owners can you email me and just give me some advice? i just want her to think im responsible enough to have around the barn.

I’ve been volunteering at my stables for around a month now. It’s GREAT!! I just love working with the 15 cobs and 5 other breeds at my stables. I get 4 days i work = 1 free hour lesson. I would wait for the lesson to end and if she doesn’t say anything just mention to her “You know I emailed you about helping out, when would I be likely to start?” Then just see what she replies and it’s pretty much all sorted then. Advice ———————————————————————–
Be prepared to get mucky!
Some of the things you might be doing are:
Grooming horses
Mucking out
Leading horses in lessons
Leading horses in treks if they do them
Feeding horses
And a whole heep more.
Have some boots/wellies on handy.
ALWAYS have the time on you, so you know when to have a horse ready for a lesson.
If a horse is going in a lesson and needs to be tacked up give it a quick groom.
