Which halter would you choose?
I want a hunter green horse size halter.
I found one at Dover saddlery and one at tractor supply, which one would you choose?

this one is more expensive, but it looks a little nicer and the circle near the noseband where you clip a lead rope is easier to get to.

this one is cheaper, and the thing where you put the lead rope on the noseband on the bottom, is actually on the halter so it might be harder to get the lead rope clipped on?
and what does o/s, mean? like the sizes?
full size would mean like average?
I love dover saddlery, and have ordered from them several times. My orders have always been on time and contain the correct items. I also feel that they have superior Quality items in comparison to some other mail order companies. I have no history with tractor supply, so I can’t say either way about the company…although I have not heard anything negative. As the halters go, I actually have the one you featured from Dover and it is great! But, both are so similar that I do not think that either one is a bad choice. Go with your budget on this one since they both fit your needs and wishes. Also, the abbreviations are P/S=pony size, C/S and F/S=cob and full size (sometimes they are the same size, sometimes cob size is slightly smaller-think arab or small QH size heads. But most F/S or C/S fits an average QH), and also O/S=over size, Draft. O/S is usually for warmbloods since their head are in between F/S and Draft size. Many high end Bridle work will also come in these sizes too! I hope I helped. Enjoy your new goodies!
Everyone please note that oversize (O/S) is NOT draft horse size. It is designed for warmbloods. Draft horse size is actually it’s own size and is not only larger but offers more room in the nose band and throat latch to allow for the shape of draft breed heads. Also, a “breakaway” halter is a great idea if it actually breaks. Be sure that any breakaway halter you purchase has very supple leather for the crown piece, and fits properly, otherwise it will not function properly and cause more problems then it solves, since most people are more lax in thier practices when using them. They think that the breakaway feature will compensate for thier bad habits, like turning out, or stalling with the halter on, or tying and leaving horses. Not so. If the halter is used improperly or uses too tough of leather the animal with actually get tied up or wind up with a broken neck trying to get away. Only buy the highest quality break away items to avoid these problems and practice good horsemanship.
